Historical Background of BhadaurThe town of Bhadaur is largely famous for its great historical legacy. It is believed that the city has derived its name from King Bhadarsen. It is the abode of Phoolka Sirdars, the originators of Phoolkia dynasty. Until 1858, it was an independent princely state but later it came under the supremacy of Patiala state enforced by British Government as a favor. The founder of Phool Dynasty, Phool, a Sidhu, was the founder of this family and his eldest son, Tiloka, was the ancestor of Jind, Nabha and Badrukhan royal families. In 1618 A.D., Phool and his brother Sandali became orphans and both taken care by their Uncle Chaudhary Kala who established Mehraj on the suggestions of the sixth Guru Hargobind. The Guru blessed Phool by saying that he would make a King. Later, the sons of Phool, Tilok Singh and Ram Singh, were blessed with Khande da Pahul by Guru Gobind Singh at Damdama Sahib. By the blessings of the Guru, it is believed that the other 11 Misls never attacked the Phulkian states.

Nowadays, the fort is almost only private fort in Punjab state under the ownership of Harpreet Inder Singh Phoolka, the only son of Sardar Kuldeep Inder Singh Sahib Rais of Bhadaur. It is now also being utilized as a destination for shooting for Bollywood and Punjabi movies.
